I've built and a new PC.  The builds a success.  I've updated the BIOS and installed Window 11 Pro, but I do have an issue and questions. My issue is connecting to wifi so I can get on the internet. I'm working on that issue, but thought I'd seek help incase the calvary can get here with the answer and save me some time and frustration. ;-)   I'll get to this and more, but first I'll list my components and post some pictures.  Below that, I'll elaborate on my issues.

  • Case, Hyte Y70 Dual Chamber Mid Tower
  • PSU, Seasonic Focus GX-1000
  • Motherboard,  Asus Tuf X670E-Plus Wifi
  • CPU, AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D
  • GPU, Tuf Geforce RTX4080 Super
  • Ram, G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB F5-6000J3036F16G X 2-TZ5NRW
  • SSD, Samsung 990 Pro 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2
  • SSD, WD_Black 2TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming
  • AOI, Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 A-RGB
  • Fan, Arctic P12 PWM PST A-RGB (3 Pack) (2 sets)
  • Fan, Arctic P14 PWM PST A-RGB

Here's a link to the above pictures and a couple more that can be enlarged.

I'm hoping that a driver update will fix my internet connection problem.  I do not have an ethernet cable long enough to reach my router.  Heck, I'm not even sure I still have an ethernet cable.  But, I shouldn't need it, my new motherboard has built in wifi, the BIOS says it's enabled, but Win 11 does not see it.  I know how to download the chipsets and drivers, and put them on a flash drive, etc. but I don't know how to install them from the flash drive. I would prefer to load all of the drivers I can myself, that are created specifically for my hardware by the companies like AMD, Asus, Nvidia, etc. that made them.  Windows will not have the latest, nor do I want Microsoft deciding this for me, but I'm really not sure how to load them now that I have them.

I know it's best to try and stick to one question per post but this time I have few, so, I'm going to bullet them and hope for the best.

  • How do I install drivers from a Flash Drive?
  • Should I just focus on installing an updated Asus Wifi driver for my motherboard and then if I can get online do all of the rest that way?
  • When I get my new PC online should I do the windows updates before or after loading the majority of my updated drivers?

Regards,

Pete

Did you update the BIOS to the latest version for the ASUS motherboard yet? It is a must to do before installing the drivers.

Go to here and download all of the drivers. https://www.asus.com/ca-en/motherboards-components/motherboards/tuf-gaming/tuf-gaming-x670e-plus-wifi/helpdesk_download?model2Name=TUF-GAMING-X670E-PLUS-WIFI

Put on USB. If wanted just download them all (the newest drivers that is)

Unzip if the are zipped, and into the respective folders.

Insert USB into the new system.

Open the ASUSsetup.exe  Installer for example for the wifi.

Reboot if needed.

(If wanted install then all of these drivers and files for all of the components and be finished with it..)

Then follow up with the Windows updates.

Then install the Nvidia driver.

Note, to prevent Windows from installing drivers that conflict with the vendor's hardware drivers, then follow this: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/543895-how-to-prevent-windows-checking-or-upgrading-from

Nice Case.   Got good info. :thumbup2: above     In Modern Systems you keep the BIOS Updated.

According to PhillPower2 the Chipset, then SATA, then Video then the lesser drivers, sound would be last.

OOPS, make sure you always use proper names : is this your Video Card : ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX4080 SUPER 16GB GDDR6X OC Edition

If so it has it's own Support Page here : TUF-RTX4080S-O16G-GAMING

https://www.asus.com/ca-en/motherboards-components/graphics-cards/tuf-gaming/tuf-rtx4080s-o16g-gaming/helpdesk_download?model2Name=TUF-RTX4080S-O16G-GAMING

If have issues always return to the Drivers on this page.

As well ASUS is a chip maker so can and does modify the chip so check back for Firmware / BIOS updates if any for it in the future.

Have FUN :=}

Hi,

Responding to the replies above.  First, thanks for you your time and help.  As mentioned in my opening post I updated / Flashed the BIOS as soon as I got the PC running.  I did this with a by following the Asus protocol of downloading and renaming their most recent BIOS cap file for my motherboard.  Then I installed Win 11 Pro from a bootable ISO file on a bootable 16G USB thumb drive I created using the Rufus program.  Both the BIOS update and the Windows 11 Pro installation went well, No hiccups.

I've read and seen some youtubers, not all, that say the chipset should be downloaded from the CPU maker, (AMD in my case) instead of the motherboard provider as it's normally the newest.  This is true in my case, so my plan is to use the AMD chipset for the X670E and not the Asus chipset.  Does this jive with what you folks also understand?

I downloaded the AMD X670E Chipset and the Asus Drivers when I downloaded the BIOS cap file.  My insecurity being unsure about exactly how the installation is done.  I understood that I needed to extract them and organize them in folders and load them on a usb thumb drive and then transfer them into a driver folder in windows.  It's the transferring them to windows whereI become a bit uncertain.

  • Where on my C: Drive do I install the drivers?  Do I just copy the folders over form my thumb drive and then individually execute them.
  • I've also downloaded the GPU drivers from Asus and Nvidia, should I just use the Nvidia?
  • I don't think ASUSsetup.exe is being supported anymore.  I believe now it's something called Armoury Crate.  Can anyone confirm this?

I'm sharing this laptop with my wife and she needs it so, I need to wrap this up, but OldsOd, I will share something with you in a different post still to come. Stay tuned. :-D

Regards,

Pete

Consult your manual for your motherboard on how to Flash the BIOS and to recover if it fails.

The other files can be ran within Windows via Double Clicking on them.

This is probably a dumb question, but.....did you install the mainboard drivers that came with the board?

If there are no responses to my post for 3 days I remove it from my answer list. If you wish to continue the thread after 3 days please PM me.

Good - installing the latest BIOS is the first thing in the list of to-dos.

Sorry I missed your mentioning this that you've done  it.

Install AMD files from AMD is what I do - there is a fool proof automatic download-er that detects the hardware and then install the correct ones for you.

For the CPU and other chips as needed, and I do the same for any Radeon cards - from AMD only.

To store on the C drive create a folder called Drivers on the C drive and unzip and move to there. OR just install from the USB drive.

If leaving these on the USB, then consider it a backup of those downloaded drivers if it is ever needed in a rush or some sort of panic in the future.

I use Nvidia website for the graphic card myself but it's up to you.

No that wi-fi setup executable isn't Armory Crate, these are completely different files doing completely different things. You will see what I mean when you go to open the installer's executables in those driver folders.

Yes click and execute the setup executables to install those drivers.

Alternatively use Windows Device Manager to find those drivers and automatically  install these for you, once you click find the device to find on my computer instead of searching the internet.

Scroll down the page to install using Device Manager: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-install-device-drivers-manually-windows-11

It's really simple, in actuality. Like installing any software but with reboots.

I have never done what you are saying.  I download, extract to a folder I name as to the purpose of download and run the thing, there is a bat and a exe they both do the same thing.

The Bios can just right click and rename it,  Never done it any other way.  Think it is just a thing not to teach right click usage.

As to using ASUS or AMD I am old school and not a AMD Chip fan as they seem to cause more problems than they are worth.

If I had a AMD Chip I would install the ASUS Chipset then when next updating can switch.  As ASUS is also a chip maker and modifies chips as explained regarding the Video Card would at least start with the Makers Drivers.

Just my thinking of the topic.  As the Board is what the chip fits into thus it  is 1st or which came 1st the Chicken or the Egg.

Using the Device Manager is really handy IF there are several different drivers and you can't figure out which one to install, for example, there are sometimes are two completely different set of drivers such as  Realtek and Intel listed for the Wi-Fi drivers for that exact same board and model and series.

It does happen there are two options ( or more even) and only one of those two is the correct option.

So let Windows pick the right driver to install in Device Manager.

But if going this way to do the job, then download all of listed drivers regardless if needed or not so as to not miss any possibilities.

Saves bothering having to not check the actual Hardware ID codes and then look these up on the internet to figure out which one is which.

"As to using ASUS or AMD I am old school and not a AMD Chip fan as they seem to cause more problems than they are worth."

So does Intel too for that matter.

Neither Processor company is without any faults and even the motherboards and chip sets have issues.

Both Intel and AMD have long histories of issues and problems.

Intel's history of issues is much longer because AMD originally started out more or less as just a fab, not a designer, although both companies started at the same time many years ago. AMD never got seriously into the designing until it got a license for x86 from Intel and then broke into the market.

Neither is perfect and both never will be perfect or without any faults.

So let Windows pick the right driver to install in Device Manager.

THe maker of the Board knows best or maker of anything knows best.  Windows uses stripped down drivers from the manuafture. They are not full feature.

As ell who wants a MS Driver dated 2006 or 2012.   The Board comes 1st.  Treat it with dignity and use the makers drivers.

IMHO anything but MS.

EDIT : this is a new build.  Why use MS Drivers at all.

So you think that installing the Asus drivers by using Windows Device Manager itself instead of manually installing those very same Asus drivers is the very same thing as installing Windows installing drivers from the Windows repository???

How so???

Please explain.
