I was just browsing NewEgg to build a system to get a price, and what is it with computer cases coming with Tempered Glass side panels instead of plastic which I would assume are safer?

The cases are also ridiculous when it comes to design and overall bulkiness. they are nothing like the Antec 1200 Full Tower Case, but id assume I would need a new tower for a newer motherboard.

Plastic fogs and scratches. Vanity.

Best to find your local computer graveyard and get a case there.

Glass breaks though and tempered gets everywhere.

The plastic on my cases is scratch free

If you are replacing one ATX mobo with another then you don't need a new case since all ATX boards have the same physical specs. My Thermaltake Soprano is currently on its third complete rebuild.

I believe a lot of current production cases are built with a view to 'eye candy'. Eye poison more like. Some of them are incredibly ugly.

Kids need Cases to impress their mates.

If you're serious about the Computer your building, You only need to know how it will perform. What it looks like is irrelevant.

Glass isn't practical in looks regardless of the user's age

ATX boards and cases for the boards are the same over the years. No changes so any old cases from decades ago still works for the new boards. (with the exception of some OEMs such as DELL or HP proprietary designs for examples)

Acrylic and plastic has been replaced with tempered glass for the panels, but the tempered glass is stronger for the most part and more durable. It is the newer or latest trend with even the front and top panels are constructed from glass.

Something like this for a none side glass panel for a new case? https://www.newegg.com/black-fractal-design-pop-air-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811352167?Item=N82E16811352167&SoldByNewegg=1

or this? https://www.newegg.com/black-fractal-design-meshify-c-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811352085?Item=N82E16811352085&SoldByNewegg=1

If wanting a glass front and glass side case, and comes with fans and has the usual desired front I/O, does have good cooling and still be economical, then this maybe  https://www.newegg.com/p/2AM-000X-00321

I need a full tower case and the reason for a new case is for usb-c front ports.

My antec has usb 2.0, 3.0, and esata all my plugs are usbc.

The case side is to be  glass or solid? Or does it matter?

Big full tower like a Corsair 5000D Airflow? Or the slightly smaller 4000?

Most cases have only one USB C on the front. Rest are USB 2 or 3.

Also be careful - most mid towers will fit an full ATX and some even EATX (or a wide ATX, not a true EATX) with caveats, but some have the USB C port fitted in the case I/O but the actual USB C cable going to the the motherboard is optional or for an extra separate purchase.

I would prefer a plastic side panel because the idea of glass worries me. If it ever shatters it breaks up into little pieces and I have my tower under my desk.

And yes Id prefer full usbc from motherboard to front panel not a conversion, because of the charging function for usbc since I have bluetooth headphones with usbc charging and all my phones and tablets are usbc.
