I have a hp elitebook 2730 running windows 10 pro. For some reason the wifi won't turn on. I can move the switch on the side all i want and it won't turn on. I work when i put in my closet 11 months ago. The laptop battery was dead when i took it out of my closet. The Ethernet port on the back works. Everything else works on it. I just can't figure out why wifi won't work. I took the card out and clean the pins and put it back in. In the bios it show the card and it is the wifi card that came with the computer. In windows it show intel 5100 wifi adapter. I think i tried everything i can think of. The only thing i haven't done it reinstalled windows 10. In less the wifi card went bad from sitting. Well if anybody has a idea to get it to work let me know. Thanks for the help.

How is the card listed in Device Manager? Right click the Windows icon in the task bar and select Device Manager? It will be under Network Adapters. Is there an exclamation mark next to the Wifi Adapter?

Hi, is this actually a hp elitebook 2730     See P and that there is only Support for Windows 7 for your 2730P      would that be correct ??

When putting a system in a closet for 11 Months do not expect it to work.

So in Device Manager what is the Device make / model for the WiFi Driver installed and what is the product ??

As well is are you looking at hardwired ??

No airplane mode not activated. The card is listed in the Device Manager as intel 5100 agn, It works good with Ethernet cable plug in. I did all the updates and the wifi still doesn't work. I tried other wifi card but the laptop yells at me after turn it on telling me i don't have a improved wifi card by hp. So i put the one was in it back in it. I tried both slots in it and the other slot the card not even seen. I know one slot for a wifi card and the other slot for a cellular card. The guy i got this from took the cellular card out and left only the wifi card. I may have to take it apart to see if the wifi switch is broken. I know the switch moves easier then it did before.Well thanks for the help. I also going to do more research online about this.

I have heard that HP white lists their Wifi cards on some models. I think you may be better off getting a USB wifi dongle. They are cheap and work fine.

If you don't move the computer around much then consider one with an antenna.

Most likely hp did white list mine. I know this is a old laptop. But it still plays videos online and other stuff. I like it because i can use it has a laptop or a tablet. I have a old usb wifi dongle from 2010. It only 54mbs. but works. I check the ones on ebay and amazon too. thanks.
