I know that the last time I tested Emsisoft Anti-Malware (FREE VERSION), there is something potential users need to know.  They will, without your permission, or prior notice, add a tag line into your outgoing e-mails for advertising purposes.  This applies 100% to POP accounts, and possibly IMAP accounts also.

I've been using EAM on one Windows 7 computer for over 2 years, going into my 3rd year. It's one of the more reliable security choices on the market & at the same time, very light on computer resources. Powerful AV & AM real time protection bundled into one package. 

It really was great last year seeing Emsisoft debuting on the AV-Comparatives chart for the first time & did Christian & team impress or what? 100% on very first test! 

The Emsisoft brand is poised for growth in the North American market, success will not be ignored. EAM was installed on my computer prior to the latest successes & I knew deep down that huge things were in store for this fantastic team. The folks at Emsisoft works hard for their customers & rewards them for loyalty, over time, up to 60% discount for EAM. 

I like the new interface, though the old one was fine, the latest is pleasing to the eyes. All controls are in plain sight, no having to dig to find anything. Customers can even backup their configuration in case of hardware or software failure, this is also in the interface. 

One notable feature of EAM, unlike many security software choices, isn't a resource hogger. Runs good on all types of hardware configurations, even my 10 year old T42 ThinkPad, though it's a 1.73GHz Pentium M, runs more like a P3. However, EAM doesn't slow it, is likely the lightest security app that it's seen. At the same time, solid protection from the unknown.

I think you are referring to the line that was created by the Outlook plugin, which scanned ingoing/outgoing mails in MS Outlook and was used to inform the reader of the mail that it had been scanned. I think you are referring to the line that was created by the Outlook plugin, which scanned ingoing/outgoing mails in MS Outlook and was used to inform the reader of the mail that it had been scanned. Must have been some years back, last time I recall a Free version of Emsisoft products was when it was known as a-squared free back in 2010. With most any free product, you can rightfully expect a catch, the devs deserves to be paid something for their product. It takes a lot of time & effort to produce security software, especially anything that's fit to use. 

Emsisoft provides a fully functional 30 day Trial at no cost, which is how I started until my first boxed version arrived, haven't had any issues with unwanted advertising. In fact, today's EAM was recently awarded for it's privacy.

1.  Test machine met the minimum requirements specified on site.

Steps
=====
1.  Tested outlook, with no tag lines.
2.  Installed.
3.  Updated defs.
4.  Locked up computer.
5.  Rebooted computer.
6.  Locked up computer.
7.  Reset to nothing but Windows updates.
8.  Installed Emsisoft.
9.  Performed outlook test, AOK.

Although the tag line didn't appear, Emsisoft lies.

It says that it has a 30 day free trail period, but, after install, and I open the main screen, it says that I only have 6 days left on the trial.



The disk backup image (paragon backup and recovery) I used in item 7 above, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER had Emsisoft installed, let alone this version.  I formatted the drive, reinstalled Windows, and the test was the same.

My opinion of Emsisoft stands, I think it's a substandard program.  The above tests were on a standalone, test PC.  I then repeated the same tests on a virtual machine, the results where the same.  The date/time is accurate, I sync it with the United States Naval Observatory atomic clock, the OFFICIAL time of the USA, every eight (8) hours, so the time variance is minimal.

No, the last time I tested Emsisoft, with Outlook was sometime last year (I believe near the end of it), just before I got my Windows 8 computer.  The results were the same, the tagline, and as Elise pointed out, the Outlook issue was removed in 2014_02, and I hadn't tested it with Outlook since then, until after Elise's comment.  Also per Emsisoft, after 30 day trail, it goes to a limited freeware version.

I used the term "freeware", when it would have been better to use "trial", but the end result is the same, they added tag lines, without permission.  Then, the current version, although suppose to 30 day trial, is only 6 days, as shown in my screen capture above.

As indicated, my computer clock is correct, because it stays in sync with the US Naval Observatory atomic clock, the official time of the USA.

I stand corrected, EAM does revert to freeware after subscription or Trial version ends, just haven't been in the situation. Yes, this is posted on the site in plain view & have seen it several times. 

Being that I recently placed the Outlook function of my Office 2010 package to use, after using WLM for years, wasn't aware of the issue brought forth. 

 

 

My opinion of Emsisoft stands, I think it's a substandard program. 

That, I cannot deny your right of, not every program offered will please everyone & in that respect, Emsisoft isn't different. 

However, Emsisoft has professional support available & response times will normally be much faster than that of some other big name brands. The folks at Emsisoft works very hard to produce a quality product & as a result of, retains many customers after the initial subscription. 

I'm sorry to hear that your Emsisoft experience has been less than a positive one.

The only other time where I saw a great reduction in the "trial" period, was for instance was the "beta" version of windows released for public review, before the planned release of the actual final windows.  When I saw these, they specifically said that the expiration date was "X".  So depending on the download/installation date, it could be months, weeks or just a few days.

As for "If you'd like to use the entire trial period (30 days), please feel free to send me a PM and I'll send you a 30-day license key", I'll send you a PM, because your offer brings up a question or two, and I'll ask it privately, before accepting or declining it.

I use my test PC and/or virtual machines to check things out before they go onto our main computers, for safty reasons.  After I got clobbered in 1995, that became my rule/procedure.  I used a standalone PC at first, using Norton Ghost to create an image of the HDD at first.  Then when I discovered virtual PCs, I started to use that, and now a combination.

I replied to your PM, but please feel free to put it in public as well. To address any concern, yes I work for Emsisoft, and yes, I have been an Admin at BC for quite a bit longer than that.

Because for unknown reason you have a problem with the trial period I offered you an option to get the same trial period everyone else gets. Nobody forces you to actually use it. As for trial periods, this is quite common, but you'll have to take my word for it.
