I bought a non functioning Lenovo laptop to fix. All it had was a frozen BIOS so now its working.

I installed a brand new copy of Windows 11.

As with new installs, Windows needs to download lots of updates. However, I noticed that when it installs the Intel driver for the display, when I boot up and get to the login screen, I get horizontal coloured lines on the screen and the laptop freezes and has to be forced off. However, If I revert back to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, it runs fine.

Should I stick with the Microsoft display driver or try something else?

Clean Install
=============
A perfect clean install of Windows 11 is to install it.   install for 10/11 https://pureinfotech.com/clean-install-windows-11/

Then Activate it From Settings-->System-->Activate

Disconnect from the Internet.

Make sure running Last BIOS Release from below page :

From saved Motherboard Drivers : https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/3-series/ideapad-3-15iil05/downloads/driver-list  Install Chipset then SATA Drivers and lots of reboots for all.

Turn off in BIOS example ASUS Fast Boot for the same reasons as below :

Turn off MS Fast Start : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup

https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-on-windows-11

Turn off MS Driver Updates as best can for Win Home : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-automatic-driver-updates-windows-10

If a Driver sneaks in : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-roll-back-device-driver-windows-10 /11

Connect back to the internet.

==========================

Use DDU to remove Video Drivers https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

Install your Lenovo Video Driver.  Propitiatory Driver

See what happens......

May need a new screen.

EDIT : Win 10 /11 has drivers out of the box for enjoyment.  They are not to replace the Original Drivers if have access to them.  They are there if need them.

In Device Manager check Driver Properties.  Some to most are 2006.  They have been updating some to 2012 but not many.

Hi, that was a quick solve.  Good news though bad. Can carry on not like the last Topic I just did we are on page 3 trying to convince them it is wrong ram

That being said make sure if replacing the ram is done in pairs and is compatible speed to the unknown Chip Specs and to the M/B.
