When I bought a dell xps 15 9520, it came with this adapter that is very important.  It's called Dell DA20 USB Type-C to HDMI/USB Type-A.

The important thing here is my dell xps 15 9520 has 0 usb a ports so that Dell DA USB that dell supplied is very important.  The thing is I connect it the only usb c 3.2 port in the xps 15 9520 on the right side of my laptop.  This Dell DA20 USB  contains one usb a port and one hdmi port.  So I would connect a 4 port a sabrent usb port to it to give 4 usb a ports total.  Then I would connect an hdmi to displayport cable to one of my monitors.  I have 2 other thunderbolt ports and one is for my 2nd monitor and the last thunderbolt port is for charging my laptop.

I recently cannot find the Dell DA20 USB Type-C to HDMI/USB Type A adapter and do not know where it is.  The issues is if I buy it online, I cannot get it on time.

Dell DA20 USB Type-C to HDMI/USB Type-A below in 2 amazon links.

I bought this wavlink thunderbolt mini dock below a while back and never used it because the Dell DA20 is enough.  However, since I am not sure where this Dell DA20 adapter is and I can't get it on time when ordering online, will this below suffice in replacement of the Dell 20DA adapter??  The thing is there are two display ports on this wav link and 1 usb a port and an ethernet port.  Now can I connect this wavlink to the usb 3.2 port or I have to connect it to one of the 2 thunderbolt 3 ports?  When I connected it to the usb 3.2 port, it says it is limited?  But it works or I have to connect it to the thunderbolt 3 port?  Thing is I want this dock on the right side of my laptop and not on the left side.

Can I use this as a replacement for the Dell 20DA?

Okay so a few years ago, someone who is very knowledgeable told me I could buy this wavlink and it would work with the dell xps 15 9520.  So when I received the dell xps 15 9520, I was surprised it came with that Dell 20DA adapter.  So when I explained to that person that this Dell 20DA adapter has one usb a port and one hdmi port... it was enough for me because you connect a sabrent 4 port usb a port to it to give you more 4 usb a ports and hdmi port to connect a monitor like hdmi to displayport.  The Dell 20DA I connected it to the only usb c 3.2 port on the right side of the xps 15 9520.  That person then told me you wouldn't even need to buy the wavlink thunderbolt mini dock then.  So I never used the wavlink at all.

The laptop's left side contains 2 thunderbolt port so one of the ports is for my 2nd monitor and the other port is for charging my laptop battery.  Thus the DA20 adapter was more then enough for me since I would connect 2 external monitors and have 4 usb a ports.

Since I can't find the Dell DA20 adapter and no clue where it is now and cannot get it on time, this wavlink should work right like with the Dell 20DA?  However, the one big thing is I can't connect this wavlink to the usb 3.2 port on the right side and it has to be on the left side where the thunderbolt ports are right?  Because I find this annoying because I connect a wired keyboard to it so it coming from the right side is more convenient.  But this wavlink thunderbolt mini dock is still going to work right?

Now can I connect this wavlink to the usb 3.2 port or I have to connect it to one of the 2 thunderbolt 3 ports?  When I connected it to the usb 3.2 port, it says it is limited?

Of course it would be limited. USB 3.2 is half the speed of Thunderbolt 3. Also, the specs (and the Amazon page) say, "The host computer must be equipped with a Thunderbolt USB-C port supporting DisplayPort Alternate Mode." So if you're not using such a port, functionality will be limited.

will this below suffice in replacement of the Dell 20DA adapter?? ... But it works or I have to connect it to the thunderbolt 3 port?  Thing is I want this dock on the right side of my laptop and not on the left side. ... Can I use this as a replacement for the Dell 20DA?

If you're connecting to an improper port, then not all of the functionality will be there. In that state, does it do what you need it to do? If yes, then it works.

So it would work then on the left side of the xps with the 2 thunderbolt ports right?

So I could use it similar to how I use the Dell DA20 adapter now but I have to use the thunderbolt port on left side of laptop as oppose to usb c 3.2 on the right side of the laptop right?  The reason I prefer connecting it to the right side of the laptop is I have a wired keyboard so I prefer the wire to come from the right side side and not the left.

So would it still work on the limited or not?  How would I know?  Like I would be connecting a sabrent usb 4 port a hub to the wavlink but also would be connecting 1 or 2 monitors to it as well.  So it probably can't handle that many things in that usb 3.2 port right?

Yes, it would. It has the same USB-A and HDMI output specs as your lost Dell DA20.

Okay but I can't connect it to the lone usb c 3.2 port on the right of my xps 15 9520 right?

I have to connect the wavlink to one of my two thunderbolt ports on the left side of the laptop?

The wavlink doesn't have any HDMI output on it.  It has 1 usb a port, 1 ethernet port and 2 displaycable to displaycable ports.  So you are incorrect about the 2nd part with the HDMI output specs right?

Ah, apologies for that. That device has two DisplayPort outputs and no HDMI - very unusual.

If you're only interested in the WAVLINK's  USB-A output then it's only 3.0 so I don't think it matters which USB-C port on your laptop you connect it to.
