When I try to open the Default User I see a notification that says You dont currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder

I click continue
I get another notification that says you have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab. (security tab is a link)

I tap the security tab
A new window pops up Select User or Group
(See photo)

User, Group, or Built In Security Principle (tab Object Types)
Under Object Types
- Other objects
- Built in security
- Groups
- Users
(All selected)

Same window, next it says From this location
(tab Location)
The only location that shows to choose from is DESKTOPEP (my user account for computer)

Next it has a blank box and to the right a tab that says Check Names nothing appears.

Then an advanced tab. I tap it and a new window appears similar to the previous but this one has a tab Find New and when I tap it a long list of Names appears. These are all of the User, Group, or Built In Security Principle accounts on my computer. Ive included a screenshot.

Can someone help me understand why there are so many? In the only one using my computer.

Hi, Welcome to BC.

It is a 3 step process to attach pictures/files.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/698076/attaching-files-to-posts-on-bleepingcomputer/#entry4791802

Is a little difficult to explain maybe can get a idea off of this : https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000137238/understanding-file-and-folder-permissions-in-windows

It is the NTSF : NTFS permissions are logically grouped into a series of six basic permissions, each of which is comprised of a specific set of advanced (special) permissions. These groupings make it easier to apply complimentary permissions to users and groups.

Without seeing your pics is hard to provide more info.  Attach and if post pics relevant to topic can look to see if anything to strange is there.

Default User is a hidden item in the Users folder. Windows Explorer says it's a folder, but in actuality it is a filesystem object called a junction. A junction is a kind of link to an actual file or folder elsewhere in the volume (or even on another volume, I think). Default User is a backward-compatibility measure for older applications, particularly those designed for Windows XP or older, expecting a real folder of that name to be there yet no longer is. In newer versions of Windows, this folder is now just called Default, also located in the Users folder; and applications needing to get into Default User will get redirected into Default through the junction. While navigation through Default User in Explorer is blocked, you can still view the contents of its target by simply entering the Default folder.

Junctions can be accessed like regular files and folders by default when created by end users, but access is blocked by default for pre-made backward-compatibility items, likely to prevent confusion for end users and to keep the items from being deleted and inadvertently breaking that backward compatibility.
