How to stop Skype from starting upon Windows boot

The "Automatically start Skype" setting is having no effect.  Is there another way I can stop Skype from automatically starting?

Run it, and then go to File and Publish Snapshot. Post the resulting link in your next reply

Yes, the advice already offered is excellent & it would help us to see the requested Speccy snapshot, please.

In the interim, a couple of thoughts/suggestions/questions:

1) Are you signed in to Skype, &/or have you tried signing out of Skype?

2) If disabling Skype both from msconfig & Windows settings does not resolve the issue, there may be another program that is calling Skype to load (the Speccy snapshot may help to determine that).

3) Do you use & want to keep Skype, or do you want to uninstall it?

1. Signed in or out of Skype never mattered before of whether starting upon Windows boot.  Did something change?

2. I cannot disable Skype from msconfig because it is not listed there.

3.  I use Skype, but not every day.  It causes a big delay for Windows startup.

If it's not listed in the startup tab of msconfig, then it's possible that another program may be calling it.

I would try signing out of Skype & then rebooting.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas.
(As you likely know, Windows 7 support ended years ago. It is an insecure, unpatched & obsolete Windows OS. So it is increasingly challenging to try to troubleshoot it. For your own safety & that of your data, personal info & finances, it would be advisable to consider upgrading to a supported Windows OS, or to newer hardware, or to Linux.)

Let us know if signing out of Skype or any of the other suggestions work.

All of your links address the setting in Skype to not start with Windows.  I stated in my first post that the problem is that the setting was having no effect.

--This is what worked, but I don't know why.  As a test, I logged in again, quit Skype, rebooted, and it stayed fixed--did not auto-start--Thanks!  I have had Skype many years and, although I close/quit, I never log out, but this never happened before....weird.  How did you know this might work, by the way?

--Not logical to me.  If something could be fixed then, the same thing can be fixed now, especially since it has not changed.

Has nothing to do with money making scams despite what you hear online and in conspiracy theories. If that were the case you would still be spending 200 to 500 bucks per windows full version installations and not 30 to 70 for a key and a usb you get from websites authorized to sell such means.

Using unpatched and unsupported software opens you up for cyber attacks.

I would highly recommend switching to Linux as its free and doesn't const anything.

Nope.  Never had any "cyberattacks" in 40 years.  No one is interested in my Paint drawings and collection of old games and recipes.  Once, right after Windows Vista was done, I used it for over a year with no antivirus, and, unknowingly, with no updates or service packs (I thought it was updating automatically, but afterward, I found out it wasn't).  Nothing happened.  It worked great.

To stop Skype from starting automatically when the "Automatically start Skype" setting isn't working, you can disable it via the Task Manager or Windows Settings. In Task Manager, go to the "Startup" tab and disable Skype. In Windows Settings, navigate to "Apps" > "Startup" and turn off Skype. Alternatively, use System Configuration (msconfig).

It has always been 39.99 for a new key.    I paid that when a computer repair service gave me the wrong key for a Windows 7.  When something went wrong and I had to  do a reinstall, the key he gave me didn't work.  When I tried to contact that service, it had gone out of business.  MS told me I had to buy a new key  (@#%$!!).

 

Long before that, one of my Windows 3.1 install floppies got corrupted.  MS had me photo copy my floppy disks, and they sent me new ones for only $39.99 because I already owned it, instead of $149 (new was $149).
