I've got windows 7 and 8.1 on my computer. Leo Notinboom of Ask Leo cautioned people not to let Microsoft help you set things up, because that really wasn't Microsoft. I may have done just that some years back. Is there some non destructive software that will help me find out what the status is before I mess up files that should be left alone ? BTW the drive in question has some files from XP on it. OMG  Thank you

Hi, you do not really spell out the issue :

Leo Notinboom of Ask Leo cautioned people not to let Microsoft help you set things up, because that really wasn't Microsoft. I may have done just that some years back.

If you have not done a format of the system since then suggest you start a Topic in the Malware Removal Forum.

Before doing so follow the Posting Instructions here : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

As Pkshadow has mentioned, your best option is just to open a new thread in the malware removal forum. I wouldn't recommend using Process Explorer since it's going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
