My OS is Win 11 Pro.  I have a new home built PC. My build information is below.  I know that there is a wealth of information in this Security forum and I'm fine with reading, etc. I'm looking for the time saving value of being pointed in the right direction. ;-)

Regards,

Pete

I would stick with the built-in Windows security and add the following to your browsers.

The following information will help you to keep your computer and data safer as well as improve your overall privacy

  1. Recommend using a Password Manager for all websites, etc. that require a password. Never use the same password on more than one site.

  2. Make sure you're backing up your files https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/136226-backup-software/
  3. Keep all software up to date - PatchMyPC - https://patchmypc.com/home-updater#download     https://patchmypc.com/about-us
  4. Keep your Operating System up to date and current at all times - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-faq-8a903416-6f45-0718-f5c7-375e92dddeb2
  5. Further tips to help protect your computer data and improve your privacy: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/258363-tips-to-help-protect-from-infection/
  6. Please consider installing the following Content Blockers for your Web browsers if you haven't done so already. This will help improve overall security

Malwarebytes Browser Guard

uBlock Origin

Since you are using Windows 11, there is always the option to just use Microsoft Defender Antivirus (Windows Defender). I explain why in this topic. Also see my comments about Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Choosing an Anti-Virus Program (Post #2).

To strengthen Microsoft Defender Antivirus (Windows Defender) you can use ConfigureDefender... a small utility that allows users to access a graphical user interface and easily configure (strengthen) all hidden Defender Anti-Virus settings. Once started, ConfigureDefender will list your current configuration and allow you to change various settings. ConfigureDefender includes three predefined protection level templates...."Default", "High" and "Max" that will automatically increase or lower the protection offered by Microsoft Defender Antivirus after rebooting. Setting the Protection Levels to "High" is a good baseline and recommended for most users.
Windows Firewall Control which extends the functionality of the Windows firewall and provides immediate access to the most frequent options is another useful tool.

Don't forget that the router has a  builtin 'inbound' firewall for that hardware level of firewall protection.

In general....

Don't download and execute suspicious files, don't open unknown emails or the attachments, don't go to shady web sites and click on risky links, and use a good ad-blocker for the web browser as already mentioned, password protect your login account and you will be guaranteed to never get malware or viruses.

As far as the Windows firewall is concerned, if you don't understand ports and protocols and general networking and processes then just leave it alone and let it run as default.

It will still give a decent enough level of protection from any network worms or viruses or intrusions in the default setting.
