My PC is Windows 10 connected to the internet via the Open Reach fibre modem and then to my TP-Link GX90 router. This router has a pretty good security suite provided by Trend Micro ie Homecare and Antivirus. My question then is, do I still need to have the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender running as well or can I safely switch them off?.

Windows 10 Anniversary update (April 2018) introduced Limited Periodic Scanning with Microsoft Defender which allows you to also use a third party anti-virus program as your primary protection.

When installing a third-party anti-virus Microsoft Defender should automatically disable itself to prevent conflicts and performance issues. If Defender interferes with installation, see....How to Fix Microsoft Defender Blocking Third-Party Antivirus Softwarew.
