Hi,

I have a high CPU usage of the Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Edge extension.

If I try to open two or three tabs the CPU usage will be as high as over 10%, plus Microsoft Edge freezes for many seconds until all the tabs are fully loaded; as soon as I disable the extension Microsoft Edge will act normal.

Do you use this extension? If yes, do you notice the same issue as mine?

I also tried deleting as many extension as possible (now I have only about 15 extension installed), I tried to reset the extension and no luck.

Unfortunately, the official Malwarebytes support was useless; I sent them the logs and they didn't know what to respond; I also posted on the official Malwarebytes forum posting my ticket number but no one from the support ever replied.

I really don't know what is the issue here. Any advice?

Thanks.

FWIW, there was a detailed reply to your Malwarebytes forum post here:

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/310089-strange-bug-of-malwarebytes-browser-guard-for-edge-ticket-4568595/

It looks as if you did not reply.
Perhaps you also have OTHER forum topics at Malwarebytes forum under a DIFFERENT username?

I expect @Porthos will likely weigh in here with advice.
But he may refer you back to Malwarebytes support, as they are the best ones to assist with type of problem.
Having said that, their support lead time on help desk tickets is (in)famously long....

I forgot to reply (I just replied), and no, I don't have other threads on the Malwarebytes forum, apart from a post on the Reddit Malwarebytes page.

Anyway, this is the list of my installed extensions: any advice about a potentially conflicting extension?

Sorry, I have no idea, since I seldom use Edge & do so with only 1 or 2 extensions.

To minimize duplicated effort and the potential for conflicting advice, I respectfully suggest continuing the discussion in your MB forum topic.

Most issues can be & are resolved in their forum.
And those that cannot be resolved there would be most easily accessible to their tech support staff, likely via your existing, open support ticket.

Thank you

Please do not use the Quote All Box, We do not talk like that nor is it proper English, use the Quote tool in the Toolbar please, Thanks :=}

I have a comment on your Extensions : No need for them all, at all, ever.

You want privacy yet you run :  Adobe Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools , Extension Exporter  Google Docs Offline  IDM Integration Module   Microsoft Editor: Spelling & Grammar Checker  Microsoft Power Automate  OneNote Web Clipper  Pushsafer

You get the idea I hope as could have gone with more.   I would guess you did not read the Terms of Service for running Edge or Windows.  You have given them strict oversight to anything and everything you do on the internet in a unprecedented scale I have never seen before.

The use of the amount of add-ons is not needed.

The use of Edge as a browser : again is giving Microsoft unfettered access to everything you do on the internet and when off line it seems.

Security : Malwarebytes Browser Guard with Ad Blocking turned off, Ublock Origin in Advanced Mode and trained for all your most used websites, Privacy Badger.   That is all that is needed.  (note not sure if Badger made for Edge, look)

If you want privacy and security you are going about it the wrong way.    As well Shortcuts can be used instead of some of the Extensions you use.

No idea on the Spelling Grammar thing but Search for Dictionaries Edge if want to stay with that.

So in conclusion : the over use of Extensions/addons does not provide security or privacy as you must give that up when use each one.

Privacy Badger is available for Microsoft Edge Chromium, and you can get it from here: Privacy Badger. You can alternatively use uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Lite (MV3), AdGuard MV3, or Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

I am providing a link to Malwarebytes Browser Guard to benefit members other than you who might also want to use it. I continuously use it in Mozilla Firefox and currently temporarily in Microsoft Edge Chromium with NO issues.

I tried to replicate your issue in Microsoft Edge Chromium by opening two or three tabs, but I could NOT replicate it. As such, it must be an incompatibility issue between some of your many browser extensions, but there are too many to test.

Nowadays, most users only utilize a few extensions in their Mozilla Firefox and Chromium-based browsers. However, what browser(s) provide(s) the best online privacy (if something like that even exists) is a topic for another forum discussion.

I would recommend that you uninstall all your extensions and use a maximum of three ones, such as Pkshadow did in the previous post. uBlock Origin Lite (MV3) and AdGuard MV3 are alternatives to the well-known uBlock Origin.

You are also being helped here: Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Edge takes a lot of CPU - Reddit and Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Edge extension causes high CPU - Malwaretips.

Good luck! :)

Note fyi : It is considered rude to post in more than 1 help forum at a time.  Help should be followed to a conclusion in that same 1 forum before posting to another.

And while the consensus is that you should keep the number of browser extensions to a bare minimum, requesting assistance for the same issue on several other...,

...forums will inevitably give you conflicting advice about which extensions to use to block ads, scripts, spam, and trackers, which further causes unnecessary confusion.
