First off, thank you for any help that any of you give me in this matter...

Running Win. 10, 64 Bit.

I just bought Fiber from my local utility co. we bought 1000gb down /1000gb up

My mobo is old, but according to the manual, the PCI x16 port will handle it.

My mobo, Biostar TA970 ver. 5.0

So when the fiber was installed, I connected it to the onboard NIC, and it was only downloading 300+mbps, each test showed a different number, always different, & fluctuating, it always does during everything I will explain here, & forward.

So I bought a new NIC, an EDUP PCIE GIGABIT NETWORK ADAPTER, model EP-9602GS

The card is getting 1gb to it.

The PC is getting 1gb to it.

Windows is getting 1gb to it.

But for the life of me, I cannot see anything near that.

I read an article about windows auto -tuning, I tried that with disabled, that did not help, I could really tell no difference, so I put it back to default/normal.

I read an article about trying it in safe mode, I did that, & there was a huge difference.

2 test result examples, most recent.

Ookla in normal windows.

322 mbps down

200 mbps up

Ookla in safe mode

652 down

263 up

Google fiber test results in normal windows

497 down

173 up

Google fiber test results in safe mode

873 down

318 up

I am a self taught minor/med techie from years past/I'm old, lol

What is doing this?

I am baffled, I do not know much about networking & such...

What am I missing?

I have read about a possible QOS software issues, but I am not familiar with that term, atm...

According to my Fiber provider, they even gave me way over 1gb, to ensure I get what I pay for...

Any ideas???

ADDED LATER - the ethernet cable is a Cat 6, flat, it does run 100ft. to the other end of the house, per where the fiber box, & router is, could this be the problem?

I would not think that is the problem, if the card & pc & windows is saying it is getting a GB, 100ft away...

I even tried changing the adapter settings in configure, from auto negotiation, to 1gb full duplex, & it changed nothing, lol

Thank you...

Sincerely,
Yakster333

Download and install Speccy - https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

Run it, and then go to File and Publish Snapshot. Post the resulting link in your next reply

I am not completely sure, but I may have ran that program after I stopped using them.

Regardless, when I just d/led it, it comes to a point of asking me to specifically name what product of theirs I want to remove, & gives a gigantic list of products/programs to scroll through...

I have no idea of which to choose...

I removed all 7 Free Kapersky's that were in their list, Free was all I ever had on here, I am fairly certain.

Also, I think the speeds I mentioned above for Ookla, was set to multiple computers, not single, my bad...

Here is the current speed, via Ookla in a Firefox browser, single computer.

520 Mpbs down

275 Mbps up

I also saw that Ookla also had a windows app, so I downloaded it...

It has me in the 900's Mbps, both ways, & the numbers are VERY CLOSE to one another, as it is supposed to be...

So idk what all this is.

Google browser also was similar to Firefox on tests/speeds.

But according to this Ookla App, currently, I am getting

948 Mbps down, to my local utility company provider, it remains in the 900's, even 40 some odd miles away.
&
812 Mbps up, to my local utility company provider.

Earlier, it was 900's both ways...

Now I don't know which to believe...

Thanks again...

Sincerely,
Yakster333

I had the thought of downloading test files, they are not downloading at 1gb speeds either...

It is as if I am being throttled, or a bottleneck is happening, I have no clue, learning all this now, lol

I was downloading things from all over the place, too many to recall, Google photos, videos, etc...

I had no idea it was going to fluctuate like it does, I was under the impression that I would have 1gb speeds pretty constant.

The fiber line in, seems to be constant 1gb on my providers end of things, their App shows you the speeds reaching the house.

Tests atm are as follows...

Ookla/Speedtest on Firefox at this time.

549.59 Mbps down

320.00 Mbps up

Google Fiber test on Firefox

609.3 Mbps down

173.9 Mbps up

Test speeds on the Ookla Windows App

946.44 Mbps down

762.64 Mbps up

I even watched a video about making sure you are getting the biggest packets you can handle, it explained how to do that, & it also showed how to check, & change your MTU, & mine was already set to the max it could handle, being 1500 MTU.

Idk, I am ignorant of the internet side of things on computing...

Thanks again...

Sincerely,
Yakster333

It wont be constant the further away you get from your house the slower the speeds depending on the connection to where you are downloading from.

Understood...

All of these tests I have shared here, say they are to my local providers location, like 5 - 8 miles from me.

Also, my provider/Utility company has just did all this/Fiber Internet, in the last few years, so all of their equipment & lines are brand new...

Thanks...

The way this is setup here in the Apt. is this.

The Fiber comes in, goes into the ONT, little black box, then over to their router, a few inches away, then that has a flat Cat6 brand new cable of mine, running 100ft to my switch & computer.

If I thought it would help to test, I would bring my PC to the other end near the router & box, & test it there...

But I do not think that matters, seeing how my PC/card is getting the 1gb down & up.

Windows is getting the 1gb down & up.

So I do not think that would solve anything, I am trying to avoid doing that, as it would be a big hassle, lol

I have tried the testing with & without the switch, with just the Cat6 directly into the PC/card, neither way seems to make a difference...

The Cat6 cable is 100ft long, but I do not use all of that, only about 40-50 ft. of that, the rest is coiled up behind the PC.

I even bought a crimping/cutting tool kit, to take that extra off at some point, but I have not done that yet, as I do not think that is the issue...

Thanks...

PM me your provider and I can do a test from my Fiber connection at home to your Providers on https://www.speedtest.net

Also others you used.
