A domain registrar.  Are they reliable?  Affordable? Thinking about buying my domain from them and then having them host my website if I ever make one.

A Domain Register can be reliable as most are, do read their Terms of Service (lol, right, no do) to make sure what you upload does not revert copyright to them.

Do make sure are popular with good reviews.

Do not use WP as always need to update plugins for Security Issues.

Always check your code by people that make the rules and standards :  HTML   CSS 

Can use Templates and alter them with your own code provide do not destroy them with your code.  Replace and follow is better.

Domain registrars are reliable because they must abide to a strict code of conduct and procedures.  If not, they loose their domain registration privileges, revoked by ICANN.  That being said, one must always pay attention to random website claiming to be a domain registrar just to steal your money.

Some companies provide domain registration, web hosting, and perhaps many other services.  It's of course a personal choice, but I don't like to put all my eggs in the same basket.  So, I choose one company for domain names, and a different company for web hosting.
 

Last one I used was: https://www.hostpapa.ca/ there is also a .com site.
