libcef.dll error

I am getting this error and have been for quite awhile now I am thinking it is effecting my Gfx performance.

 

"The code execution cannot proceed because libcef.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

 

It's related to nVidia GeForce experience. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program multiple times and used DDU to uninstall and re-install drivers and nothing seems to work. Any advice would be appreciate!

Make/model of system, make model of GPU as my be running NVIDIA software does not mean it did not come from another vendor that changes it's BIOS or Firmware such as

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070

Do not take Windows Update Video Drivers. Download from here so know what your getting : https://www.techspot.com/drivers/manufacturer/nvidia_geforce/

 

Is this the same system  Gigabyte 970A-DS3P   and did you update the BIOS to the last one released : F2j Beta  (Rev 1) or is it (Rev 2) FD Bios ??

You have missed many releases and fixes as well as AGESA / AMD ComboAm4v2 updates.

Some missed where for Update to Win 11, TPM, Security Issues, As well would think missed Drivers.

 

Most of your Drivers are supplied by Microsoft Update.  Should be using your M/B Support Page and never ever take Video Drivers from MS, Optional or otherwise.

 

If this is the case of missing your Motherboard Driver Updates would suggest to do so.

 

Please Remove :   Avast Antivirus with it's Removal Tool : https://www.avast.com/en-ca/uninstall-utility  Possibly your issue, if not it will be.  Check that Avast did not Quarantine the file before doing so.

 

You are running 2 A/V Programs at the same time, Spybot - Search and Destroy is a full fledged A/V program.   Remove the glorified cookie finder (IMHO)

 

it is not recommended to use : CCleaner to clean anything but Temp Files.  Check if there is a history and see if it deleted you file.

 

So "nVidia GeForce experience"  So you just want to uninstall Experience or all of NVIDIA ?    Type in Start--> Search    Programs and Features and open it and see if can get it from there.

 

If does not Uninstall still and have used DDU then try using Geek Uninstaller Use Force Uninstall  or Revo Uninstaller 

 

Should be getting your Driver from here : https://www.techspot.com/drivers/manufacturer/nvidia_geforce/  Do not need to sign in to download it and give your info away for free.

Site tells you what is up with the driver.  Sometimes unless have problems can pass on it as may just be a update for a game you do not play.

Ok followed your directions and uninstalled Spy Bot and Avast. Updated BIOS to current version double checked to be sure it updated and it did correctly. I uninstalled GeForce Experience with Revo Uninstaller and rebooted PC,the error still came back even with GeForce Experience uninstalled. Installed the latest version of GeForce Experience and rebooted machine. Error still came back on start-up.

 

Note: This is a MOD Guard for Mods I use on American Truck Simulator.

So I tried something, I went into my start menu and disabled GeForce Experience on startup. Rebooted and no error then started it manually and went into a game and everything seems to work correctly, overlay works recording works screenshot works so it's just on Start up if I have it enabled that it throws that error. Just wanted to give you that information.

So have you just been uninstalling Experience or the whole NVIDIA Program with Pysix and what ever else ?

 

After disable in Start Up and reboot did you try and Uninstall the whole Program ?

 

As per getting new version from Techspot and in the installer choose do a Clean Install. (or is that only my AMD...forget if is in both)

 

Noticed after I posted you had Revo Installed.  Fyi a paid version gets even more out if that was just the free version.

Would suggest try Geek next time and see if that does a better job.

 

I would think that since you use Experience on a daily basis there are some settings that have been changed/made that when is normal boot ties it to the installer big time.

Fyi : https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/24142 may set to stock may also work since you have used MSI Afterburner as it to maybe the issue of file in use.

 

This was the ultimate goal was heading for as what you have done is a band-aid solution that gets what you want.  Suggest keep trying to get it out as may have future implications.

Do not take MS Driver Updates for NVIDIA : https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/146562-prevent-windows-update-updating-specific-device-driver.html they are stripped down and are incomplete versions.

 

This also presents a different view of the issue : Libcef. dll is Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) Dynamic Link Library. Some applications need this file to work properly. If libcef. dll is missing, you could receive various errors when you try to run these applications.

 

So if where running Chrome and made changes in Experience while using it then uninstalled or a Update may have made the issue.

This would hold try as well to MS Edge updating in the background which you have no control over.

 

Ultimately something removed the file which is the issue.  As well if fix it will something remove the file again IE CCleaner

 

New MS Program might be useful to you instead of CCleaner : https://pcmanager.microsoft.com/en-us  The Toolbox Setting is only sketchy part of the program.

I've just been uninstalling GeForce Experience not the actual Driver. I did do the Uninstall of GeForce after disabling it from start up. I''ll try that Geek Program and see if Techspot has GeForce Experience and re-install from them and see what happens and will let you know.

Ok I used Geek to Un-Install GeForce Experience..got the newest version from Techspot and -re-installed it. Enabled it in Start Up and rebooted...same issue comes up with the error. I also got the PC Manager Installed and got rid of CC Cleaner.

Ok, so disable what you have been doing.  Uninstall with Geek Forced Removal (right click) and install the NVIDIA with a clean Install.  If does not work use DDU and try again. 

 

That file will turn around and bite sometime.    

 

So there is instructions on this : https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmanager/libcef-dll.html to register the file.   So get one from a friend I would think or search a ISO for it or Windows Installer for.

 

I do not have it in Windows myself. I do have one on this system which is a Win 10 Pro, it is 137megs and part of Norton.                So best bet is have a friend running Win 10 Home check their system.

So I tried using Geek Force to Force Uninstall GeForce Experience and it was still there even after Geek said it was uninstalled. I could open it up and everything. I used Revo Uninstaller then to uninstall it and scanned the system for left over files and deleted them. I then re-downloaded GeForce Experience from techspot and Installed it.

 

Then I tried the directions in Partition Wizard from the link you gave me and get this error when trying to register libcef.dll

 

Error: "The module "libcef.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DIIRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "libcef.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."

 

I rebooted the system and got the same libcef.dll error.

 

I have no one to get a dll file from so I downloaded one from https://www.dll-files.com and made sure it was for the 64 bit system.

Looking forward to the next reply and suggestion.

#6 I really really don't want to do this..I can disable GeForce at start up and the program still works just fine. It's only when it's enabled at start up that this occurs.

boot into safe mode I would think.  Make sure your On-board Video Drivers are up to date 1st.

 

If does not work, boot into BIOS and disable that PCIe Port and save and then try to uninstall.

 

Regardless of other things as mentioned the idea is to get this to do what it is suppose to.

 

Yank it out.     :=}  So your Cam maybe still using it.  You have become totally relent on this program.  It is not even installed on my system due to privacy issues and info it wants.

There are others.

 

Did it not register with the info about that ?

 

Not on your list is the Repair Install Upgrade as to if tried that.

 

Nor is a System Update to Win 11 as your M/B supports   it.

 

Sooner or latter something will make a file change.          

 

Would have tried something like this to see if the file is in there : how to search and with draw a file out of a .exe

 

Have you asked others about the file that you play with on the forums ?  Would they not check their systems for it ?
