Videos pause/stop momentarily with a buzzing sound

Frequently now, when watching a video, the video will pause/stop momentarily and a buzzing sound will occur.  ~1sec. Then it will automatically clear up.  This occurs while watching videos on the web and also when running apps, like VLC.  Momentarily delays also occur when just listening to music, say w/ Windows Media Player.  I noticed this problem ~1 month ago.  I also noticed that the System process frequently shows very high power usage in Task manager and am not sure if this is related.     

Some things I tried:  I ran windows update, verified that past updates were successful, ran some diagnostics on the HP Support Assistant, verified I had the latest drivers in device manager, among other things...

Can anyone help?

As far as can yell you have a New BIOS Update : F.71 Rev.A    Jan 3, 2024   is this installed ??

Have you taken a MS Update for sound ?   If so would be the issue.  Try : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-roll-back-device-driver-windows-10 /11

Thank you BC Advisor for your suggestions!!  I wanted to respond and let you know where I'm at on things...

• I turned off MS Fast Start, as per your suggestion.
• I did previously try the HP Troubleshooters audio, which unfortunately didn't show any problems.
• I'm not exactly sure how to tell if any of the MS updates are for sound.  I checked in the device driver section (and some others) of the MS update history though and didn't see anything that stood out.    
• As for the BIOS, I admittedly have the F.71 version and not the F.71 Rev.A.  When googling I couldn't find when the RevA was actually released - people mention installing this version, in chats, in 2022 and maybe earlier.  Given that, I wasn't sure where you saw the Jan 3, 2024 date you mentioned.  I also wasn't able to find any release notes for the BIOS versions - frustrating as I don't know why it should be so difficult to find that info [I'm talking to HP here].  I'm a little leery of updating the BIOS, given all the horror stories I read and not knowing what fixes are in it.  I did just read up today on some general tips though like putting the BIOS update on a USB stick, and turning off real time protection prior (I have the free Avast Antivirus and MS Defender).

If both are active then uninstall Avast with it's Removal Tool.    You can not run 2 A/V programs at the same time.

This maybe the cause of your issue. Regardless Avast has to go.  (IMHO it is a problematic program more times than not).

Windows Defender is a A/V and a Firewall, it is ranked in the Top 10.

Actually my Windows Defender antivirus is turned off, so have just been using the firewall part of it.  It's funny how things change over time.  About 6 yrs ago I remember the Avast Free Antivirus being recommended on bleepingcomputer.com.  Think the Windows SW has improved since then though.  I haven't been keeping up on new recommendations...  Think I will remove the Avast SW, as you suggest.        

I figured out why I was having problems seeing the support drivers - the page to select the OS isn't rendered properly by my Opera browser.  I've noticed this occurring on Opera a lot more recently.  Ran with another browser.  

So I believe I updated my BIOS (you gave me the courage) and my problems appear to have resolved as a result.  Yay!  The System process stays in low usage and I've not heard any buzzing, nor experienced any video delays.  The only oddity to me is that the BIOS version still shows F.71, and not the expected F.71 Rev.A.  Think I'm inclined to leave well enough alone at this point, rather than re-run it or re-run it after removing Avast.  (I did temporarily turn off Avast prior to updating the BIOS.)

So ya, it is amazing how a BIOS update fixes issues.

Sometimes I see a BIOS being run still that was before Win10  came out. and a Update fixes the issue.

In Modern Motherboards it is a normal thing to be updating the BIOS, Chipset and Intel Management Engine, as well the need to do the same on a AMD chip and board.

5yrs of support for your model. So possibly last version released.  It is the date of the release that is most important.
