I watched  videos of installing hyperv.

Once it appearedthere was no name on the left side even though I did have hyper v checked. I am showing you  what in in my pc without hyperv checked but when I did have it checked I tried to set it up. It says I cannot do this action when I click on the left where the name is on the tutorials. Do I lack softwareor hardware?

>>I am editing b/c I found that by enabling platform my name appeared as it did in the tutorial.

I'll go back to the tutotorial and hope this is the easiest VM for a person who never used one.

I'm not clear on what's happening. Did you find a solution, and the solution was "emabling platform", which means what, precisely?

What is "platform"?

Usually, if HyperV won't enable, it's because Intel VT (virtualization technology) and related settings aren't enabled in hardware setup, or what most people call BIOS settings on your PC.

Windows hyperplatform under Windows Features was not checked so the virtual machine could not be created. Once I checked it everything was moving along.

At the every end I ran into a problem to long to get into so I need to study videos  more.

I would like to ask one question, does my using an ethernet connection rather than WIFI have anything to do with my failing at the end to connect.

I follow a video with two  screens to learn. I do as the video does but while they succeed I fail to connect.

IIRC, HyperV doesn't work out of the box with all WiFi adapters. Have you tried VMWare client (free)? It's supposed to be the best at making connections like WiFi work while virtualized.

What settings did you use? I suggest posting a screenshot.

Before I received your post I had cleaned up with  readjustments and a Macrium image recovery as I had work to do.

Thanks for the referral to VMWare client free-I'll see what I can do?

Is Virtuakl box  from Oracle worth a try for a person not famialiar with VM's?

For all of these virtualization in the BIOS/UEFI needs to be enabled.

Which of the entries in Windows features need to be enabled, anything that mentions virtuall of some type?

For HyperV to run, I believe there are no particular Windows settings required. You just have to install the HyperV module.

As for the pros and cons of each program, I suggest posting that question in the Virtual Machines subforum.

I did learn that due to Win 11 new security features you needd registry hacks to build a  VM. I will go to the the subforum  -thanks.
