I've been given a Lumia phone, and have managed to set most of it up, no problem ... except I can't synchro my emails - if I delete one on the laptop it remains on the phone, and vice versa.

Any suggestions as to where I should be looking to sort this out?

TIA, John.

Phone - Nokia Lumia 610 running WP 7.8

Laptop - HP Pavilion running Windows 8.1

Outlook - 2013

Hi John,

How did you set up the account, i.e. is it your phone's primary account or a secondary account? You also mention Outlook, are you refering to outlook.com or the Outlook program?

Casey

Casey, thanks for replying,

At some point (when I was asked to sign into Outlook.com I think) my email just appeared!  So I don't know if it's the primary, as my email is with Gmail ... how can I tell?

When I listed Outlook, I meant that I use Outlook 2013 on my laptop to display my Gmail account and for calendar.

John

Ah OK. Your primary account will be a Microsoft account (i.e. @live.com, @hotmail.com, @outlook.com or similar) as you will have needed this to set the phone up originally and to download apps. I think you probably then added your Gmail to your phone using the email+accounts page - so the email account you're actually talking about is a Gmail account?

If so, I think this is a known "issue" with Windows Phone 7.8 and IMAP (which is the technical name for the service you use when syncing your Gmail emails). Essentially, Windows Phone 7.8 will appear to delete an email, however, the email will not be deleted from the server (so you'll still see it in gmail.com and anything other device that accesses your email). It looks like there used to be a way to fix this, however, things have changed since then and so it no longer works.

Casey,

I'm afraid I didn't uderstand much of what was in those links, except the fact that the phone just changes a flag but doesn't get rid of the mail from the Inbox.  But that's not reallymy problem ... there is nothing happening at all with synchro, even if I move a mail from one folder to another. And if I delete from the laptop nothing happens either.

Going back to your question about the 'primary account' ... could I change which one is the primary?

John

Hi,Johnaldo, you'd better upgrade your windows phone to win8.1. My Lumia520(win8.1) does't have this problem.

So I guess I'm wondering what email account you are referring to. Is this only with your gmail account?

You can change your primary account, however, it will require a reset of your device (so you'd have to back everything up first). There are some details here on how to set up emails and accounts: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp7/people/set-up-an-email-account

Unfortunately, you won't be able to. Phones running Windows 7.8 cannot be upgraded to 8 (or beyond). The latest version available for the Lumi 610 is 1066.0000.8858.12470 according to Microsoft.
