I'm looking for atleast 16GB of memory but ideally more like 32GB (or something that can take an SD/microSD).
The device needs to respect ID3 tags properly, I've tried some utterly awful mp3 players which ignores these and played tracks in completely the wrong order.
Audio quality shouldn't be terrible, it mustn'y be too quiet when listening over normal (over ear) headphones, but needn't be outstanding or particularly satisfying to audiophiles.
Battery life must be long and I need to be able to charge (over micro or mini USB) while it contines playing tracks, preferably a device which isn't glued together during so assembly such that when the battery dies of old age after a few years I can unscrew stuff and solder a new cell into place.
The player needs some form of small screen, so not one of those thumb-drive style devices which just have two buttons and a tiny text display, I need to be able to see things like how much time is left and elapsed within long (hour or so) audiobook tracks (normal mp3 files, no DRM to worry about).
Fast forwarding and rewinging within a track needs to be easy.
Headphones need to use a 3.5mm jack, I have no need of bluetooth.
Device needs to present as a normal USB storage device when attached to PC, I run linux so can't be depending on manufacturer's (effectively always windows only) software to do transfers of files from PC to player.
Device must have buttons of a kind which are not too easily knocked, or have some kind of lock feature where when you slide some sort of switch the rest of the controls don't take any inputs until you unlock, so I can cary it around without constantly skipping tracks.
I was hoping to buy in a UK high street store or on amazon.
Anyone got any recommendations? Thanks
