Tutorial Needed Re: How to Use Autoruns List

HI..This is my first Autorun.

Although I have read http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/33012/how-to-use-the-startup-database/

I have established that I have no clue how to read the results of my Autoruns "Everything" listing.

My guestimate,  there are at least 70+ entries!

I do not see the legend of Y/N/U/X/?

All I see are entries with no colour; entries marked in blue, pink and yellow.

I know these massive amounts of programs at startup, keep my laptop running like a slug [Windows Vista Home]

Shy of entering each and every line item into the search bar on this page: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

Is there a faster way to establish what can be unticked?

If I have left out any details please advise. I look forward to your direction.

I found this on the microsoft site while searching for startup programs and how to minimize them

It explains a lot about autoruns and msconfig.

I used it right away, haven't finished going through all my startups yet, but it's helped a lot already.

Thought it might help someone else.

I needed to add something to the information I gave about the video link I gave - the link about autoruns and msconfig from the microsoft site.

This video in no way replaces the database on bleepingcomputer.

It is more of an overview and general information. I gained more of an understanding of the big picture and how it started and developed to where it is today, and how to research the startups on the web. But, when reading all the web information I find when searching for a specific startup I do end up doing a lot of studying and trying to understand each program. Bleepingcomputer makes this much easier.

The big picture...IMO any information to understand some of the basics is valuable for those like you and I ,who are still in "basic learning mode."  Then to better understand and use the incredible resource Grinler has created. Huge project...

I went to microsoft.com

searched for technet startup programs video

clicked on to link - Autoruns for Windows...

on the right under learn more

clicked on Defrag Tools: #5 - Autoruns and MSConfig

this takes me to the video

This channel 9 video series looks to be very informative. I'm planning to subscribe.

Old thread but if anyone else is curious about the colors in autoruns, my observations;
 
blue 'entries' - sections searched - they aren't check/uncheckable
(or, if it's a much brighter blue, you've clicked on an entry and that entry is now highlighted.)
pink is entries that are lacking a description
yellow is entries that say 'file not found'
all other entries will be without color
