Hi. From the Topic called " What tutorial do you want to see? " there is a request for dual booting since 2004 till this May. (9 years!)
And still no one want to do this. So after I installed Ubuntu with Windows 8 for my friend.
I'm going to show you.
(Sorry for no picture but I will make it detailed as possible.)
1. Prepared your booting disc and install partition.
You can see the instructions for how to create booting DVD or Flash Drive to installed Linux from your Linux download webpage.
For Ubuntu : Here it is.
And then, If your computer have only 2 partition. You may want to create more. (About 3 will be good.)
Follow instructions from here to create partition. Don't forget to move your data out of the partition you want to seperate.
From here.
If you have 3 or 4 partiton now. Write down the spaces you allocated on each partition to determine what partition you want to install ,please write down all partitions.
2. Select booting order.
Insert your booting device. If it is USB ,plug it in before start the computer. If it is DVD ,start the computer ,insert DVD and reboot.
From that after you start computer, it will told you what button you have to press to Enter Setup. Click that ,if too slow , reboot and try again.
Then after you go into the setup, go to "boot" tab and select first booting device to be "Disc Drive" or "USB Serial Port
(Select port that have your device name.)", depends on your booting device.
After that ,save and exit setup. The computer will restart and the Linux installer will start ,select option to boot into setup.
3. Follow the Installer.
From that point we will follow the instructions on the Installer until we reach " Installation Type " Page ,select "Something Else".
4. Select partition
Hardest part. You have to know what partition you want to install ,it must be blank or unwant partition. DO NOT install on the partition where Windows lives or partition that stores Data. Use the list of the allocate spaces to determine where you want to install.
5. Create Mounting point
After selected the partition you want. Click on "Change..." Button.
Then change these following :
- Use as.. : Change from NTFS to EXT4
- Mounting point : Type in "/" without quotes.
- Leave "Format partition" Checked. If you have problem and want to reinstall UNCHECK it!
Then click next.
If any warning pops up, ignore and resume.
6. Follow Installer till finnished
If you have any errors reboot into setup again and select "Repair" at step 3.
7. After installed
You will be inform everytime you boot that what OS you will use.
And Thats it! If you have any problems please report.
Thank you.
