Every time they come out with a new DDR version it starts off being much more expensive than the previous one, but over time as adoption increases and manufacturers wind down production of the older type, the prices tend to normalise and even reverse (i.e. the older type starts to become more expensive as supplies dry up).  Personally as of mid 2024 unless I was specifically going for a low budget system, I would go with DDR5, as it's not that much of a premium over DDR4 and it will be the standard for a while.  For owners of existing DDR4 systems if they have any plans of upgrading the memory, now might be a good time to do it while it's plentiful and cheap.

Agreed.

But if the DDR4 and the boards were deeply discounted such as half price, it may tempt gamers with an Intel Core i5-12600K/12700K/13600K/13700K or Ryzen 5700X3d/5800X3d, and then spend rest of that build's budget on a higher tier graphics card.

Guessing the next 15th gen of Intel will be only DDR5 as AM5 is already there at DDR5, so maybe or hopefully the existing DDR4 components will be on a deep discounted sale.  This would be good for average or low performance type of users too.

DDR6 standards is going to be finalized by JEDEC in 2025, so maybe in 2026 there will be DDR6 memory on the market?

CAMM2 may appear on some laptops in some future date and even maybe for some desktop motherboards.

So the cutting edge tech is coming.

But like you have said, buy the DDR4 now if you need it before it goes up in price and it is no longer cheap.
