Hello all, I have a question. Searching online and youtube has been no help on this one. Trying to boot a lenovo G500 running windows 8 (not 8.1). Running fine yesterday but today is in a boot loop. Trying to repair boot loop. I would like to avoid bringing it to a shop. Is this an MBR corruption issue? Not sure how that just happens. Hard drive is pretty new, just replaced it a few months ago. I would like to avoid reinstalling all the software as I have spreadsheets and such I need. Yeah, I know I should have backed up and it's been a few months. Any recommendations on how to fix the boot loop caught in automatic repair? I do not have the install cd. This laptop comes with an install partition on the HDD.
I have also tried booting to safe mode as I thought maybe I could use a system restore point but no matter what I do I can't get past the boot repair loop.
The only other thought I might have is maybe a simple boot repair utility for win 8.
Any assistance, much appreciated.

I have forgotten everything I knew about W8, but if you need a system disk here is a link to a site claiming to supply a version of W8 & 8.1.  I know nothing of this site, but it appears to be legit. As to how to do a repair reinstall of W8 without losing your data, I don't remember, but I am sure it is possible. Web search for a "how to" on W8 repair.

Another suggestion that may help you get to the data on the drive: use a Linux distro to boot Linux virtual, then try to access the drive and pull your data off. An example is Linux Mint.

Another one is Fatdog.  A very powerful distro is Knoppix; I have used it several times to pull data off a problem drive.

As to the "how", perhaps this will help

https://www.eightforums.com/threads/repair-install-windows-8.26095/

Offered "as is", as I have no personal experience with Windows 8 and do not endorse use of obsolete, insecure, unpatched versions of Windows

Cheers
