I'm going to help my son build a new comfuser.

Is there a site where I can type in which games & programs he wants to play & use to get a list of compatible motherboards, CPUs & GPUs?

I'm hoping to find some good deals this Cyber Monday.

The only thing I can think of is >

https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

it will list hardware needed to run, Look at the recommended and not the minimum

https://www.pcgamebenchmark.com/

Would be helpful to list the games and programs. If you wish to add these in your post.

Which display resolution? 1080 or 1440 or 4K? Normal or wide screen or ultra wide 24 or 27 or 28 or 32 or 34 or more screen size? Display is a deciding factor in the selection of hardware.

Also which country are you located and from whom or where  are you ordering from?  We could help make a parts list with you. Maximum budget range?

Thanks for the website links, I'll check them out.

Here's a small list of what he wants & needs on the comfuser:
Minecraft
Minecraft: Java Edition

Subnautica
Subnautica: Below Zero

DOOM (2016)

DOOM Eternal

Microsoft Office (we have 2007)

IrfanView

VLC

WinRAR

Adobe Photoshop (we have v7.0)

Revo Uninstaller Pro

I know Doom Eternal probably has the highest Recommended Requirements, besides Windows itself (Motherboard-wise).

He'll be running Windows 10 Pro.
Resolution has never been a deciding factor in previous builds I've helped with.
I live in the U.S. & not sure who I'm buying from yet.

These are the parts I'm leaning towards:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Mobo: ASUS Prime B450M-K or MSI B450M Pro-M2 MAX
Memory: G.Skill Aegis 8GB or Patriot Viper 4 8GB
PSU: Corsair TXM Gold 550W

Unfortunately, price is an issue; but I think these should be good for his 1st build.
I already have a HDD he is going to use, a DVD-RW (if he wants) & I'll let him pick-out the case.
I'm just stuck on the video card.  He doesn't need top of the line, but something that will last awhile.

A quick list for you: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yQ9cRK

these i5 12600k are going cheap ATM, and are good enough to be comparable to the 14600k, picked DDR4 RAM because it's cheap, and the RTX 3060 still holds up. Case comes with fans. Included Windows 10 HE.

Oh it's under 940 USD.

The i5-x600k are  a very good all rounder- good for photoshop and for gaming.

Just a rough idea for pricing and some part ideas.

AMD https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8NDZz6

The RX 6700 XT is good for 1440p. Does 1080p very gracefully. Like a RTX 3060 Ti.

Under 970 USD

CPU cooler just barely fits into this case and it's really is overkill for either CPUs.

Again using last gen CPU/boards.

This case is a bit larger and is "better" for a few dollar more, but it does need an extra fan, to be bought separately.

You did not mention a video card, or maybe I missed it. If your son wants to play these kind of games you must have a gaming video card and if you are not careful these cards can get very exspensive. May I suggest the AMD RX 580. You can find one of these at Amazon right now for as low as $75.00. I have one of these in my Linux computer and it rocks for what I paid for it. I got mine for $95.00. It has 8 gigs of DDR5 RAM with a huge 256 front side bus. I discovered these by accident while trying to find a video card that did not brake my bank. When I had this video card in my Windows computer it played every game I owned in Steam and it played them well. Do not let some of the lower reviews discourage you as a lot of those reviewers want to compare it to a 3060 to 3070 video card but those things cost $300.00 to $600.00 and its not a fair comparison. Bottom line for the games your son wants to play the RX 580 should work just fine. Hope I helped.

AMD 580 is going out - maybe get another card?

Agreed but the RX 580 will play all the games his son wants to play without taking dad to the bank. This card ran about 30 to 40 percent faster than my 1060 did using 3D Mark. It even played Cyberpunk 2070 at a fair pace. Granted it did not score as good as my brand new 3060 did but that, way over priced, video card better have ran better. Olds0d I am always trying to find a way to beat the insane video card prices as they are crazy. My opinion.

Agreed. "insane video card prices" is a very good way to describe the situation.

If AMD and nVidia were not making so much profit from AI, and without that AI sales then I am guessing the video card prices would be more inline with reality.

In my opinion it is very clever marketing by these video card companies as they know these kids will save what little scrap of money they have to buy one of these video cards. All this just for FPS bragging rights. Did you know that a 4090 video card can cost as much as $3000.00? Then you must outfit a computer build to accommodate that monster video card. And these 4090 video cards are always out of stock. Who is buying these cards for that kind of money?

I just want to help this dad to know he does not need to fall into that trap so he can build his son a very workable gaming computer. My opinion.
