.............................. I think I should try and get it back to the way it should be.................................I also know I uninstalled McAfee wrongly, and possibly Office 365.....................................

If you uninstalled McAfee and Microsoft 365 via Settings -> Apps -> Installed apps, or, Control Panel -> Programs & Features then you didn't uninstall them wrongly at all. The special McAfee removal tool should only be used when the normal methods fail. That's McAfee's advice - not mine.

I'm really not convinced that you need to restore your new laptop back to its factory configuration. The old adage "If it aint broke then don't try to fix it" springs to mind here.

4. Run DSIM & Sfc

4a Do a Malwarebytes Scan

5. Revert to the out of the box state (keeping C:\User data (advice on this please versus wiping this folder ? Bearing in mind point #2

6. Contact Lenovo.

7 Get to state where I can load Macrium.

8. Create Macrium Image

9. Download hardware drivers.

10. Disable Windows from Downloading Drivers and bios updates.

(post #29 - MM How to do the. BIOS prevent task please ?)

10. Update Windows to latest version

11. DSIM & SFC & Macrium Image.

12 Reload as per post #19, removing Office 365 and McAfee. (I do have paid for Malwarebytes)

Hi,

I have discovered an issue when visiting Lenovo's Support site for Drivers etc.

This is the issue:

I purchased the Laptop from Currys on the 5th Feb 2024.

I have read the Label on the rear of the case, and noted down the Serial Number.

When I went to Support.Lenovo.com, there was the option for the page to detect the Make, model & S/N.

I elected to let this happen, but although all the details are correct, it looks as if the Laptop has been pre-registered, as the 3 months of Premium Care has expired, and the start of this was August 2023.

Now I have started a support Case with Lenovo, but only did this this evening.

My questions are -

1. Has this Laptop been refurbished after someone bought it in August 2023, then returned it ?

2. Should I return it to Currys and ask for a new one ?

I fully intend to go to Currys and ask them  what is going on, and I'm sure Lenovo will restart everything from 5th Feb 2024 if  requested.

Personally, I think I have a refurb....

What does everyone think ?

I have posted the evidence, but not the actual serial NUmbers etc, but take it from me they do match exactly.

(If you think its OK to post all these, I can, but I'm erring on the cautious)

UPDATE:

Currys have said this does happen and the warranty will run from the date on my receipt. The unit is not a refurb as it would have been marked up as such.

Lenovo have reset everything from 5th February 2024

Update to this post.

I have done a re-install keeping the C:\Users folder.

I have done DSIM and sfc /scannow memory checks and hard drive checks at regular intervals and everything has come up with no faults.

Macrium backups along the way, and only one bit of software has failed to behave properly It installed, but failed to run properly, but I hve uninstalled it.

Thanks to everybody for their help

I'm glad to hear that you got everything sorted.

It may have been a bit of overkill, but at least things are working properly now.

Cheers
