Hello everyone,

I just signed up.

I had already browsed this forum to read but today I decided to sign up for support in a situation that keeps me anxious.

I have a hp-victus laptop that has windows 10 22h2 and that has always worked well. A few months ago it started to freeze, especially explorer and the task bar.

some days he does it two or three times, other days even 10-15 or more.

I could only do ctrl-alt-del and reboot the system.

The help I ask for is:

1) complete and "secure" edge backup
2) "complete" list of all installed applications
3) check for any malware

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, I will give you other details of the story that brought me here to you. You can even not read this part.

It could have been the corrupted system, a hardware problem, a virus... and I don't know anything else.

I tried asking for help on tenforums.com but didn't have much success.

What did I try to do?

- I did the usual dism, sfc, chkds checks and it didn't solve the problem
- I checked with at least 15 antivirus software and found nothing and did not fix it.
- I did an "on place" reinstallation of windows to avoid losing the data and it didn't solve the problem. I've done it twice.
- I still made a backup with Macrium Reflect.
- I did all the hardware tests that the bios suggested. and I haven't solved it, everything is ok.
- I tried some antirootkit tools and found nothing.

So I decided to try reinstalling from scratch too. I'm stuck here.

To make sure I had a backup of all my data and applications, I tried a restore on a virtual machine and the edge data (the open tabs, more than a hundred) were not all restored.

I tried various edge backup procedures and when I went to verify the backup I failed.

Then I had the idea of creating a new administrator user. If I connect with the new user the PC no longer freezes.

But some things don't work. Like if I have to run a command with privileges sometimes it doesn't start, other times if I click on the start links nothing is executed.

So I decided to reinstall.

What I would like to help is to make a "safe" backup of Edge, and have the "complete" list of all applications so I can reinstall them on the new system.

Furthermore, I would still like to check for any viruses, rootkits or other.

I wanted to add other things I did:
- checked the disk status with crystaldisk and it's ok
- Made a boot disabling all non-Microsoft applications and services. But it doesn't solve
- Disabled all explorer extensions, but it doesn't solve the problem.

Hello and welcome to BC:

Thank you for the detailed description of your steps thus far.

First: It would help us to better assist you if you could please provide the link to the tenforums.com topic. That way, we'll have a better idea of exactly what was recommended & tried.

Second: If you think you might be infected, that is the first priority. It's pointless to work on other things if there is malware.

We cannot work on malware removal in this forum section.

I suggest starting with this guide, following the instructions as best you can:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

Then please post both requested FRST logs in a NEW, SEPARATE topic here in the Malware Removal section:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-help/

A trained expert will guide you through diagnosis and (if need be) cleanup.
You can return here to this topic for additional work once your malware helper closes out that topic.

Thanks
