I have net gear cm1100, asus rt ac86u router, hsi with Comcast @800mbps. When I run Speedtest with iPad or cell phone, I get near the 800 download, but when I try my Ethernet wired pc, I have no internet.  This started about a month ago with my pc  speeds dropping to less than 300mbps.  Now I have nothing.  Tried all the usual troubleshooting with modem, but nothing.

Is M/B Ethernet adapter kaput?

Did you try the cmd checks to make sure the router hasn't failed?

It seems the router is ok, since it delivers wireless speeds to my phone and iPad @ 5-600 Mbps to both.  Do you agree?

Are you familiar with Linux Live Sessions?

No.  What is it?

Have a read here: https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/burn.html and proceed youll test the hardware on another operating system.

The cmd commands (by pinging Google.com, for example) will show if the packets are reaching the target and returning through the modem with no data loss.

We don't even know if the device is working so commands and updates wont work if the device is dead. Hence why I suggested the Linux Live Session to see if another operating system shows a working hardware device.

Post # 1 asus rt ac86u router OP says is working.  There for if only plugged it in and using Microsoft Drivers would need to install the proper drivers for the UNKNOWN OS.  As Well there is BIOS Updates for it.

What the OP is having issues with is is the Unknown Network on a Unknown Motherboard and Op asks that in Post # 1.

As we do not know if the OP has installed the UNKNOWN  Motherboard Drivers and if installed them properly after any unknown clean install or Reset.    It would seem logical to ask those questions before having them Ping anything.

But I did not offer my Opinion or Expertise on that.  I only stated there was Drivers and Bios available.   Dan do you like arguing over everything, grumpy or what

And your point is is that you can continue arguing about nothing or you can help the OP.  You can not do both.   Regardless there are Drivers and Bios for it and that does not go away or fight.

I have offered my assistance and that is to test the hardware with another differently operating system if the issue is present in Linux, then the hardware is dead, if its not then its a corrupted operating system or something.

@ posters:  guys, all of the suggestions are good. By starting an argument we are:

> Confusing the OP

> Bringing a bad image to this really great website

> Accomplishing nothing except degrading the thread quality.

If the OP tries the various suggestions, he will find his problem. Let's encourage, not discourage him.

All good suggestions (with varying degree of effort from you).  Mine would be to check some basics.  Are LEDs lit on the computer and the router connectors where the cable is plugged in?  Do you have other wired Ethernet devices that you can use to help isolate the problem further? For example, an old switch that you can plug your PC and your router into, to see if LEDs lit on the connectors?  This way, you can find out if the PC or the router is the problem.

Since this occurred over time, I suspect a hardware issue.  Are you sure no settings have been changed either on the PC or on the router?  Because if so, that would be a big hint.

Using linux will determine hardware fsilure faster then finding old hardware and mitigate drivers
